WHISTLER, BC, September 19, 2024 – Whistler Community Services Society (WCSS) is proud to announce the successful completion of our Technology Systems Upgrade project, made possible through the generous support of the Government of Canada’s Community Services Recovery Fund. This essential upgrade was crucial in response to the extraordinary strain placed on our organization through the increased demand for food security and mental well-being services in our community post COVID-19. As the only provider of social services that include both food bank and outreach services, we became the central point of support for individuals facing mental health challenges and financial insecurity. With demand for our services still at levels five times higher than pre-pandemic, and with the ongoing challenges of rising costs of living, increasing debt, and a shortage of affordable housing, this upgrade has been integral to maintaining quality client care amidst the growing demand.

The upgraded technology infrastructure at our office now enables improved access to reliable internet and functional equipment for our clients, staff, partners, board members, and volunteers. With the new IT tools in place, we have ensured reliable internet access for all users within our building, including clients and partner organizations. The enhanced equipment provides better availability of online services, significantly reducing technology-related challenges and minimizing computer downtime, contributing to enhanced workflow. This project has removed barriers to access for our clients, strengthened collaboration with other organizations, and ensured that all partner organizations working within our space have reliable internet access to facilitate their services effectively.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the Community Foundations of Canada, Canadian Red Cross, and United Way Canada for their support of this important work. Their contributions have been instrumental in making this upgrade a reality. Additionally, we’d like to thank the Whistler Community Foundation for its work in the Community Services Recovery Fund and their continued support of WCSS.
