From Pique Newsmagazine article “Extreme weather shelter opens Feb. 18, 19 as temperatures drop in Whistler,” February 18, 2026.

..”The Extreme Weather Shelter is intended for anyone living in precarious housing, including those staying in vehicles, tents, unheated dwellings, or outdoors, and does not require personal identification to access.

The overnight space provides cots, sleeping bags, pillows and warm food and beverages, along with free parking and on-site support workers.

The shelter operates out of the WCSS building and opens only when conditions meet activation thresholds, offering temporary refuge during periods of extreme cold or severe winter weather.”…

Extreme Weather Shelter

WHERE: Whistler Community Services Society (8000 Nesters Road, Whistler)

WHEN: The shelter is open from 6pm – 8am, if the following conditions are met:

  • Temperatures are predicted to be -10 degrees Celsius or below, OR
  • Temperatures are 0 degrees Celsius, WITH an adverse weather warning issued (heavy rain or snowfall, etc.)
