Extreme Weather Shelter

The Emergency Weather Shelter is WEATHER DEPENDANT!

Who is it for?

All those living in precarious housing situations (vehicle, tent, outdoors, unheated dwelling, unsafe shared living space, etc.) are welcome! No personal identification required.
 
Homelessness means individuals and families who are living in public spaces without legal claim such as vehicles, outdoors, in abandoned buildings, tents, storage units, a homeless shelter, a public facility or service and cannot return to a stable residence, or individuals and families who are financially, sexually, physically or emotionally exploited to maintain their shelter.
 
At risk of homelessness means individuals and families who are living in:
  • Temporary accommodation where they do not have control over the length and
  • Conditions of tenure (eg. Couch surfing, name not on lease) and do not have
  • Adequate personal space or in unsafe conditions such as lack of adequate heating

Date & TIMES

Shelter will be open from 6pm – 8am NIGHTLY if the following conditions are met:

  • Temperatures are -10 degrees Celsius or below, OR
  • Temperatures are 0 degrees Celsius WITH adverse weather conditions (snowfall,
    heavy rainfall, blizzard, etc.)

What is provided

  • Sleeping cots, sleeping bags and pillows provided in a shared sleeping area in the WCSS 3rd floor boardroom as well
  • Warm food and beverages in the evening and morning
  • Support Workers on site at all times
