THRIFT THAT CREATES SOCIAL GOOD

Re-Use-It Centre

When you donate to or shop at our stores YOU are directly funding community programs, like our Food Bank, our Outreach services for mental and physical health, subsidized counselling access, financial assistance programs for kids to go to art classes, attend camp, play sports and MORE!

In any resort town, people come and go. Every season, someone needs to gear up, furnish an apartment or find a sweet outfit for après. In Whistler, those who do leave town rarely ship their stuff home. Instead, they donate it to the thrift store that opened in 2000 to fund social wellness programs and services.

The Re-Use-It centre is that place: where last season’s top-rated gear is snapped up by the lucky newcomer who happened to be shopping for some pots and pans. Every visit is a treasure hunt. And every sale helps takes care of the community by funding our programming.

Drop-in and have a look. Our store is now open seven days a week.

For the safety of our staff, our community, and our wildlife, we ask that you please not leave donations outside when we are closed and unable to receive them. Donations make a huge difference in our community, by building Whistler’s circular economy and keeping waste out of our landfill.

WHAT WE ACCEPT

WHAT WE do not ACCEPT

A Note About Book Donations:

The Re-Use-It Centre is happy to accept books when we have space for them.

Books are one of our highest volume donations. When our book section is full we have nowhere else to store them, for this reason we may ask you to bring them back at a later date, or find alternatives to Re-Use-It. We sell our books at a low price and still cannot move through them quickly.

Books cannot be recycled in BC:

While magazines, catalogues and phone books are covered under the BC recycling regulation and are collected with other printed paper under MMBC’s stewardship program, hardcover and paperback books, such as novels, text books and reference materials, are not accepted.

This leaves the Re-Use-It Centre in a tough position, we have no other way to dispose of excess books than to put them in the garbage which is something we really don’t like to do!

Please speak with staff or call ahead to see if we are currently accepting books or to ask about alternatives to RUI.
