Outreach Services at the Whistler Community Services Society (WCSS) are getting a two-year boost thanks to the Whistler Health Care Foundation (WHCF).
The WHCF announced a donation of $100,000—$50,000 per year for the next two years—for WCSS on Nov. 12
The money will strengthen the community service provider’s ability to meet the growing demand for mental health and social support services in Whistler, the WHCF said in a release.
“Over the past several years, demand for WCSS outreach programming has grown dramatically as more residents seek help with mental-health challenges, housing insecurity, and financial pressures. This new funding will help sustain essential outreach and counselling programs that are often a lifeline for community members in need,” the release said.
“The funds come from proceeds raised during the 2024 Hike for Health, an annual WHCF event that prioritized mental-health initiatives.”
The WHCF wanted to ensure its money went where it can have the greatest immediate impact, said Jen Black, WHCF vice chair and chair of the Hike for Health Fundraising Committee.
“We’re thrilled to be able to support WCSS and the incredible work they do to assist individuals and families navigating mental health challenges in our community,” Black said in the release.
WCSS is “incredibly grateful and honoured” to be the receipient, said executive director Jackie Dickinson.
“These funds will help us ensure accessible services, strengthen mental health programming, and provide ongoing support and wraparound care for individuals in need,” Dickinson said. “We remain committed to being an open door—offering a warm cup of coffee, a caring conversation, and a trusted network to help community members navigate well-being services within WCSS and beyond.”
