WCSS continues to see record-breaking numbers of Food Bank visits. Every week, more of our neighbours are struggling to put nutritious food on the table. The challenges our community faces are real, and we need your help to meet this growing need.

Read below to hear the story of a food bank visitor in the Sea to Sky.
“Eleven years ago, at 30 years old, I left my dangerous hometown in Mexico for British Columbia, hoping for a safer and better life. The Sea to Sky Corridor, with its stunning landscapes, became my destination.
I started in Pemberton and began volunteering my time. This experience was eye-opening and allowed me to connect with the community and the natural beauty around me. Eventually, I moved to Whistler, a place that felt like a dream with easy access to skiing, culture, nature, and wildlife.
But it has also been very challenging. The cost of living in Whistler is so high, and finding stable employment has been tough. All my part-time temporary jobs provide essential basic services to this town and without workers like me, who else would do them? I am never not thinking about money. There are times when almost all of my money goes toward rent and I can’t afford enough food. My credit card has a balance on it, my line of credit has a balance on it, and that is beyond stressful.
I am lucky to be physically healthy, but the stress of my income is very hard on my mental health. I just try to find joy in the little things – a hike in the mountains, spotting wildlife, and spending time with friends. These moments keep me grounded – and hopeful that every day is a step towards building a stable life here.”
