This handbook provides all the information one would ever need as a newcomer to Whistler. It includes information on housing, amenities, employment, budgeting, transportation, activities, safety, programs and support services, emergency phone numbers, drug and alcohol information and more.

The Survival Guide is available at the Employment Centre, Health Care Centre, Re-Use-It Centre and most service organizations, or call (604) 932-0113 for a copy.

NEWS: THE NEW SURVIVAL GUIDE WILL BE OUT SEPTEMBER 2008

A word of advice to newcomers:
Bring enough money to keep you going for 2 months in case you don't get hired by Whistler/Blackcomb and need to find accommodation in the Village:

Rent $600/month
Damage deposit $300

Enough to survive for up to 2 months without a paycheque:
$40/week for groceries X 8 weeks = $320

Other potential costs:
Phone and/or hydro deposit $200 each
Entertainment, transportation costs, phone bills min. $1500 is advisable

What You Can Do

Volunteer. Opportunities to give back to your community at WCSS and in Whistler are listed.

Donate. WCSS is a non-profit, charitable society. Donations are gratefully accepted and tax receipts are issued for amounts over $25.00.

Recycle. Through our "Free to a Good Home" exchange program, post your free item on the bulletin boards outside Re-Use-It Centre.
